SO FLY At-home Edition

How to connect games to real life. A SO FLY master collaborator and mentee challenged me to do this topic. Thanks for the inspo!

I hope you are well and staying safe. My prayers are up.

My idea behind this topic is, if you’re playing video games learn something from them. I picked a few games for us to play and learn from. Here are my thoughts… I hope you will read all the way through.

‘How To Play & Learn From:

‘Mortal Kombat’

A Fight game-

Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter were my ultimate video games to play on my brothers’ Sega Genesis. I was a great fighter. I ‘finished’ my opponents. I was really good at these two games because I played them the most. And That’s Tip #1.

From [drpoplove YouTube]

If you want to be a good fighter…

“Learn basic combos of fighter moves so you can mix up the attack on your opponent, if you’re doing the same thing over and over again it’s not going to work” [at least not for long]. So a simple kick won’t do. Go full on attack. *High punch, *Elbow strike, then take your step to *Leg sweep ‘em onto their back.

Crush everything standing in the way of your inner champion.

Side note:

So, don’t simply go to school or work… Get there on time, daily. Take your mind with you and Really be present. Then put on some respect for your teachers and leaders. I promise you that doing these things will position you to be great. What you do in your real life should be no game.

Play and stay activated with every intention to reach your next level. Keep in mind that the next level will have a greater challenger than before. The bigger the opponent the better you become.

OH, Remember to use your *block!  Use your block strategically. Don’t over do it.

The whole point of this game is to use ALL the moves you got. But blocking yourself from danger can be the best move and save you from a lot of damage. Throw up your guard. Protect your face. Try not to get hit dead in your eye. You really need your eye. Both eyes. So you can SEE clearly. And there’s nothing worse than being open to a surprise hit.

Another example of this block strategy ‘in life’ is to simply walk away from a fight. You do not have to fight every fight.

—I find Power in the game of MK.

‘Super Mario Bros’

-A classic basic-controls game and a throwback that has Levels of Levels—

It’s crazy that there are 4 levels and then 8 levels (kingdoms) within those levels.

I watched [iJustine YouTube]

This game is just fun to play but you gotta try not to throw the controller. A small misstep may end your current level and cause you to start over. Life.

All jokes aside. You probably couldn’t pay me to finish a game of Super Mario, now or then. I lack the patience and skill. Lmbo.

A round happens so fast and there are sooo many levels to it…As life.

Other Super Mario like-life qualities:

-Focus fast as you run and jump over the different obstacles.

-Avoid getting picked off the board by the enemies.

-Bang out the bricks to earn your way.

-Know the secret spots that will instantly advance you to next levels (a pass to skip over unnecessary obstacles).

-Connect to the star and gain your superpowers.

-Save someone else. (Remember that Super Mario’s mission was to rescue the princess.) Life has more value when your goal is to help someone else.

*Are you hearing the Super Mario melody in your head right now?

—Super Mario has Lessons that don’t age. This game has been around since like ‘83 and is still going strong now in 2020.

Let’s play one last game.

‘NBA 2K20’

A Sports game of basketball-

Cool clip from [3xclusive Entertainment YouTube]

3xclusive tells us, “Get control. Learn everything you can about the different plays of the game so you can have a deep bag to dig in when it’s time to play ball.” That’s Nice. That’s life.

Shooting the ball-  it’s all about the jump shot timing release. Get the timing down to increase your chances of the shot. I like that tip- move when it’s time to move. Keep practicing your game until your rhythm to move is instinct or natural. Life & Levels.

Spins and gathers in 2K20- is about agility. Well that’s how I see it. Stretch those limbs before the game. Your body has to be fit, in tip-top-shape, if you want to turn on a dime, bend, and glide in the air like you’re flying for those dunks.

For success in real life you also have to commit to stretching yourself. Life & Levels.

Dribbling- I hear for this year’s 2K20 you can make your own sequences of dribbling. Who doesn’t like custom?! This is the chance to create the way you like. A gift in life. When building your own moves you still want it to look sharp and lead you to a winning play.

I can imagine you have to know or study the original ‘foundation’ (of dribbling) before you are able to recreate something new. Life & Levels.

Passing- Find your finesse with the different forms of pass and play. Study my buddy. And team work.

Life & Levels.

Free throws- I love 3xclusive’s comment… ”You only good at ‘em if you practice ‘em baby.” Release it at the right time and you golden, he added. I know free throws take practice, practice and more practice.

Defense- 3xclusive says, “Get your defense together, cuz defense wins games.” The way I see it – Your hustle can be so good that you throw the opposing team off their game. It’s good to be on top of your game. Now imagine being great because you recognize that you’re not the only one with game – and that, my friend, is your motivation.

—2K20 has a lot of parts to it that all require Precision.
