The Journey
I love fashion. But my obsession for fashion has elevated to SO FLY 12:30, Soul Outreach For Love of Youth. There is so much more to fashion than I ever realized. The way I felt about clothes for years was a cover up. I started paying attention to what I was wearing on the inside and that told me more about myself than any piece of clothing ever would. And this new feeling turned into the ‘fashion’ of SO FLY.
In 2010, I started SO FLY in Washington, DC to talk with high school students about spiritual awareness. I want youth to know and remember that our hearts pump all day and all night. I want them to know what that really means. (Come to a session and find out.) SO FLY is a space where youth talk about the things they don’t get to normally talk about in school. We talk about the quiet, even secret, things we deal with everyday or whatever matters to us that day. I encourage my youth to look at ‘what we wear in our heart. soul. mind. strength.’
I have these conversations and topic sessions in classrooms, cafeterias, on phone calls, video chats, group texts, and now through this website (that launched 2019). My focus is simple- ‘What we wear from the inside is more important than what we wear on the outside.’ This is the SO FLY brand. This is fashion that gives us our best look. This is what I call inner fashion. This is a lifestyle. This is ’12:30′.
12:30 is a symbol that reminds me of the first SO FLY lunch-time school sessions.
12:30 is also my personal scripture inspo – which is Mark 12:30.
Youth have so much to express about their lives and I will pay attention. Youth also have a lot to understand and I will express my support. This blog is a fashionable experience of how I do both.
