The Conscious Closet Says:

Wear what we got.

We don’t need to have a crazy amount of clothes in our closets to be fashionable. In most cases we have enough clothes to wear. And I get that some people, like me, are just really into clothes and it’s about having many good pieces. But to be honest, we do too much. I know I do. Be creative and switch up how we can style the same pair of shoes or tops instead of buying more. A different color jacket or different style of denim that you already have can change the whole look of an outfit. Wear the same things in different ways. It’s about what you do with your clothes not how many clothes you have. I know people who shop all the time and always look the same. I’ve even had that problem before. My idea on this is to Have a style mentality not a fashion ignorance.

What are we still shopping for…

Be honest and ask ourselves if we really need to buy that new piece of clothing and if we just gotta have it, will we wear it often and is it good enough quality that will last a long time for me or for someone else after I may recycle it? This means less trips to Zara, H&M, Forever 21 (fast fashion) stores or any of the brands like this that make a lot of non-quality clothes for fashion and not for keeps, these pieces will wear out quick. We will end up wasting money to buy more in another two-weeks or month, these dollars really add up! If you buy more clothes, make sure it is really important to your wardrobe and it will be around for a while.

Get rid of our old clothes the right way.

Recycle unwanted clothes and underclothes. [Keep in mind to also sell, swap, and repair your old clothes]. Make sure the unwanted clothes are clean before they go out for recycling. Use your local recycling bins, charity donation bins, and textile waste collectors to discard these clothes. If you don’t know where these bins are in your area, google ‘where to recycle my old clothes’, if nothing comes up in your search, you may get in touch with your local council members to get one in your community. It’s that important!
