MARCH is heroic. One- for its style of storytelling. Two- for the story itself. I’ve never been into comic books or comic strips of superheroes. But I do like visuals and that’s exactly what the comic genre offers.
I attended an event earlier this year and received a copy of Congressman Lewis’ book entitled MARCH. The book is basically a comic. And the hero is actual civil rights justice. With the adventures to go with it.
Who knew?! I would get a chance to read a comic book. Written by a figure like Congressman John Lewis…
Last month I wrote a blog post on Congressman John Lewis – ‘A Living Legend’. You may find the post here to check that out, in case you missed it or want to refresh your memory.
MARCH is a cool-crafted story and the personal reflections of the young John Lewis in the Civil Rights Movement.
Every page is filled with action, sensory and momentum. It was a very active way of reading. I really enjoyed this book even though it chronicles the events of the Black unrest in America’s history.
The images, cross conversations and bubble captions — and even the words that really aren’t words at all but sound effects of an emotion or object, like CL-CLANK from a jail cell door slamming shut -all of it is simply dynamic.
Over these next few weeks of March I will highlight the three major scenarios happening in this book. Thank you for reading along with us!
