A SO FLY Q&A 2020 Vision Pt.2

When I sat down with Taiwon for this interview, we both expected to only do an interview. But something more happened…

Taiwon had about 20 really good questions for me during this interview. We only put in 8 of those questions and answers for the opening blog post this week. We would like to share some of the other parts of that interview today instead of our regular Wednesday’s BOOK REVIEW.

Here’s what happened. Here’s what took this interview from 10 to 100 real quick.

Taiwon asked me-

Q: Besides the Bible (lol) what has been your favorite book you read this year (2019)?

A: Yes, my all-time favorite is the Bible. *Proud Giggles* I can still say the Bible. Because anything I read I’m able to connect it to God, I’m built to see things that way. So even if I’m not reading from the Bible but from another book.. if you can connect that book’s energy or spirit to God then you can get two for one. [The Bible is not the only place where you can get something spiritual. You can find spirituality through people. Because God lives through people.]

I would have to say that my favorite read this year would be the first book I reviewed for 2019, There Will Be No Miracles Here by Casey Gerald. That choice may seem odd for people who have read the review because I really fought with that book. I was uncomfortable with the things he expressed in the beginning of the book. That was a good thing for me. You always end up being a better person when you get out of your comfort zone.

Check out the book review if you haven’t yet.

Fast Forward – Little did I know that this book review conversation would turn into a heart-to-heart between Taiwon and me. This is why I LOVE SO FLY.

You don’t see this from the beginning but the author Casey Gerald is gay and he came out as a young person. I don’t know what that is personally but I know enough people and their stories to know it is difficult to tell your family and friends that you are gay and the backlashes that can come with that.

I told Taiwon that If I knew Casey was going through being gay while also being a teenager, I would not have been so hard on him. I felt bad. That’s how it is with people. We judge a person before knowing what’s going on with them. You just take what you see of them on the outside and run with it and you say about that person, this is who you are. That’s what happened to me with Casey. I just got the outer surface of him, not knowing what was going on deep down with him. This was his story. His life.

Casey was bullied, mocked and played on. And he gave back that same sting to his readers in the beginning of his book -in a way I didn’t think it was deserved but now I understood why.

Casey was trying to be himself. Trying to understand himself and life…

Then it really happened.

Taiwon stopped me in my tracks and said, “Miracle, this went from interview to… what you just did when you said what you just said, took our relationship to another whole level. I’m goin tell you why”… And we talked ‘off the record’ for almost two hours about the exact experiences he shared with Casey Gerald.

SO FLY is here for no other reason than this.
